I love backpacking gear. I get in a good mood when I start gathering it together to go on a trip. It is my ticket to freedom and relaxation, not to mention the beauty and mystery that is present in wilderness. I am not the only one that feels this way. My border collies seem to have the same viewpoint. When they see me pulling the pack and sleeping bags upstairs, and watch me start lining things up so I don't forget anything, their spirits are lifted as well. They know that I will be telling them soon that "We are going to the Mountains," and understand that means freedom and wildness, hiking along in front of me.
