National Trails Day is a great way for hikers, backpackers, and outdoor enthusiasts in general to give back to the places they like to visit in the natural world. Celebrate hiking trails in the United States by participating in this national event. What is National Trails Day?Begun in 1993, National Trails Day celebrates America’s hiking trail systems, and provides opportunities for volunteers to participate in projects to build and maintain trails, as well as other events. Typically National Trails Day is held on the first weekend in June. There are also National Trails Day activities in Canada. These trail events are hosted by local groups such as clubs, community parks, and other groups. Some of the activities include a 5k run, geocaching, and trail maintenance projects. Also, REI has marked National Trails Day on its events calendar with local events and projects.
