National Get Outdoors Day is an event that, according to its website, encourages, “healthy, active outdoor fun at sites across the nation,” by giving participants, especially kids, the opportunity to engage in, “traditional and non-traditional outdoor activities.” These are being referred to as “EChO-Events,” and include such things as fly-fishing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and rafting. Local organizers will provide the necessary outdoor equipment. The program seeks to reach out to people from underserved populations and also those who are using public lands for the first time.
